Every state of consciousness we experience is a combination of one or more of the four categories of brain waves: beta, alpha, theta and delta. We can learn how to achieve the specific brain wave pattern through meditation. The combination of brain-wave frequencies that forms the basis of mastery can be learned. |
Beta: Beta brain waves are the fastest, most common brain –wave pattern for a waking state of consciousness. They are produced by your thinking mind-your conscious thought processes. Beta is what you use to navigate and negotiate through your everyday life.
Alpha: Alpha is our relaxed, detached awareness, our daydreaming mind. It provides the lucidity and vividness of our imagery. With it we sensualize, using all of our senses, not just the visual. Alpha is the light reverie that provides the gateway to meditation.
Theta: Theta brain waves are produced by the subconscious mind. They are present in dreaming sleep and the REM state. This is where is held all the unclear emotional material that each of us collects over the course of our lifetimes. Paradoxically, theta also provides the experience of deep meditation in a meditation brain-wave pattern. It is through theta that we make our strongest spiritual connection.
Delta: Is the lowest and slowest of all frequencies, is the unconscious mind. Delta is still present when all of the other frequencies turn off in sleep, giving you deep restorative rest. In some people it is kind of a radar or unconscious scanning device for intuition, empathy, and instinctual action.. . . that provides deep levels of psychic awareness.
